Jalapeno Records is one of the UK’s longest running independent dance labels.
Jalapeno has become synonymous with high quality releases that are low on pretensions. Not tied too strictly to any one genre you are as likely to find drum and bass as deep house, lounge tracks as likely as electronic ones all linked by one simple fact. It’s got to have the funk. That can be the tru-funk of Danny Soopasoul or Dr Rubberfunk through to the nu-funk of Basement Freaks, it can be Rhythm and Blues courtesy of Smoove and Turrell or festival conquering electronic boom tunes from Kraak & Smaak. It’s just got to have the Jalapeno Funk.
The J-Funk is what brings our brothers and sisters from around the world into the Jalapeno camp.
Fort Knox Five and All Good Funk Alliance from the US, Basement Freaks from Greece, D’Stephanie from Belgium, Radio Trip from Israel, Kraak & Smaak from Holland, The Odd Couple and Torpedo Boyz from Germany, as well as the UK playas like Skeewiff, Soopasoul, Max Sedgley, The Bee Keepers, Dr Rubberfunk and Smoove & Turrell, all of whom are joined by the common thread of Jalapeno Funk.
In 2007 as an extension to the label, Jalapeno Sound System was set up to spread the word and the vibe, and with dance music experiencing one of it’s bravest periods with audiences more open than ever to experimental, anything goes setlists the sound system continues to go down a storm with open minded club and festival crowds. Label boss Trevor Mac is the Sound System resident DJ with artists like Smoove & Turrell, Shepdog, Soopasoul, Skeewiff, Dr Rubberfunk and Kraak & Smaak bringing their own individual flavours to the J – Funk mix.
Jalapeno Sound System are currently holding down a monthly saturday night club residency @ the big chill house in Kings Cross London with guests on rotation like Ben Westbeech, Tom Middleton, Norman Jay, A Skillz, Kraak & Smaak, Smoove & Turrell, Soul of Man, All Good Funk Alliance and Soopasoul all bringing the J-Funk goodness.
