Roach Motel is the best loved pseudonym of house music legends Farley & Heller. Responsible between them for some of the seminal moments in house music this track was the first time the duo had come together in the studio in over three years. Both were big fans of Kraak & Smaak’s previous single with Romanthony Let’s Go Back and agreed to come together to remix Built For Love.

In the end they delivered not one but two amazing mixes that show how powerful house music can be in the hands of master craftsmen. The Roach Motel Mix is deep and acidic while the Soul Boy mix rolls with a breakbeat swing underpinned by a sublime bassline that soothes your soul while it shakes your ass.

From the guvnors of the old school to the most exciting emerging talent in 2012 – next on the mix are Psychemagik. The mysterious duo from the cosmic forest have been steadily building a fanatical following with incredible releases like Valley of Paradise, a string of must have remixes and edits for the likes of Metronomy and their mind blowing DJ sets. The result unsurprisingly is an instant classic for DJ’s that like it deep and disco.

Let’s not forget the original – the album opener for the Dutchmen and the first track to reveal their relationship with one of house music’s most original and haunting vocalists. From his early Azuli classics like Falling From Grace (which had Murk and Tony Humphries on the mix) through to his world renowned collaboration with Daft Punk on One More Time, Romanthony is an enigmatic character who has been responsible for some of the most classic vocals in house. The deep Detroit chords of the original were the perfect way to announce Kraak & Smaak’s new album and it remains a tough act to beat.

Runnin’ is a kraaktastic slice of disco goodness – heavy on the groove and a sure fire set lifter. This Feeling takes things a little deeper with the trademark K&S synth work from Oscar De Jong confirming a (dutch) master is at work. Featurecast (Lee Mintram to his mum) has an album on the way with a serious seasoning of top vocalists including Greg Blackman (a mainstay of the album), high flying UK bluesman John Turrell, Hospital Records D&B vocalist of choice Pat Fulgoni, plus MC Alaska, C Reid and Pugz Atom dropping urban science whenever and wherever required.

Prior to signing to Jalapeno, Featurecast has released on a variety of happening labels like Bomb Strikes, Good Groove and Catskills as well as Funk Weapons in the US and the burgeoning Ghetto Funk label in the UK. One of his early productions was even snapped up by Apple to promote the IPOD – yep those ads with the silhouettes dancing round – that was our boy.

His DJ sets are the stuff of legend and he regularly tours North America and Australia where his brand of bass fuelled turntablism is in serious demand. Featurecast has crafted his own unique sound combining amazing pinpoint scratching whilst effortlessly cutting between Funk, Hip-Hop, Breaks, Dubstep and Drum & Bass. He’s dazzled the crowds of some of the biggest festivals and venues around the globe with Canada’s legendary Shambhala festival being the scene of one of his biggest triumphs.

Featurecast has shared productions duties on previous releases with legends of the bass scene like Krafty Kuts and house heavyweight James Zabiela (who credits Lee with teaching him to scratch) as well as remixing everyone from Aretha Franklin to Finley Quaye.

Basically his whole life has been building towards this album and now his time has come.

With Prince style vocals from the band’s lead singer and a plethora of original material, a who’s who of the Funk Breaks world lined up for the chance to Get Freaky for the Freaks.

First on the remix tip is Brooklyn based DJ/Producer/Musical chameleon, Ursula 1000 who drops the highly anticipated disco take on one of the stand out tracks of the album. Australia’s Omegaman drops a fast paced dubby version melding reggae riddims and live break beats to a huge distorted electro bassline. Next up is Quasamodo who provides a funked up tribute to the original. Finally, George’s label mate Delimentry drops a Ghettofunk wobblethon for the heads of this emerging offshoot of the breaks scene.
